Hopen2

Privacy policy

Last updated 8 October 2026

Hopen2 helps adults meet up in small groups for platonic activities. It's run by LDM Business Consulting ("we"), who decide how your data is used. Questions or requests: hello@hopen2.com.

What we collect

  • Your account: your email address, and your password or Google sign-in. Passwords are handled by Google Firebase and we never see them.
  • Your profile, which other signed-in members can see: first name, home base (a town), interests, the line about you, and your language.
  • Private details, which only you and our admins can see: date of birth, gender, the people you've blocked, and your trips.
  • What you do on Hopen2: events you post or join, group chat messages, safety check-ins and check-outs, and reports you make.

Who can see what

  • Signed-in members can see your profile, events, who's going and the host's first name.
  • Group chats and check-ins are only visible to the people in that event.
  • Your date of birth and gender are never shown to anyone. Date of birth checks you're 18 or over; gender is only used for "same gender only" events.
  • Our admins can see everything above so they can keep people safe, handle reports and follow up on missed check-outs.

Your location

When you tap "Use where I am now", your device's location is used for that search only. It isn't saved on our servers. To find town names and addresses we send searches and map points to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service, and maps are loaded from OpenStreetMap's tile servers, which can see your IP address.

Why we use it

  • To run the service you signed up for: your account, events, chats and finding things near you.
  • To keep members safe, which is in everyone's legitimate interest: the 18+ check, check-ins, blocking and reports.
  • To send emails you need, such as password resets and email verification.

We don't sell your data, show adverts or use advertising trackers.

Who helps us

  • Google Firebase: hosting, sign-in and our database, stored in London (europe-west2).
  • OpenStreetMap Foundation: maps and place search.
  • Resend: sending emails.

Some of these may process data outside the UK or EU, under the safeguards the law requires.

On your device

We store your language, light/dark choice and the place you were last looking at in your browser, and Firebase keeps you signed in. These are needed for the app to work; we don't use tracking or advertising cookies.

How long we keep it

We keep your data while you have an account. When you delete your account (Profile → Delete account), we delete your profile, private details, trips, chat messages and check-ins, take you out of upcoming events and cancel any you're hosting. Reports you made, or that were made about you, may be kept for up to 12 months for safety.

Your rights

You can see and change most of your data in the app, and delete your account at any time. You can also ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to stop or limit how we use it, by emailing hello@hopen2.com. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) in the UK, or the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (aepd.es) in Spain.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and tell you in the app if the change matters. See also our terms.
